Warmth for Wake is an energy assistance program sponsored by the NC Bankers Association and Wake County Human Services, aimed at providing fuel for low-income households in Wake County during cold months. The 2009-10 season marks the program’s 32nd year. The 2008-2009 winter was mild, but donations totaled $29,500 and more than 40 homes received free firewood. Each year, Warmth for Wake helps about 200 eligible households keep the heat on with utility assistance. More than $1 million has been raised since the campaign’s inception. Warmth for Wake is funded entirely through voluntary contributions from individuals, groups, and companies.
Warmth for Wake officially begins October 31 and is administered through the Office of Community Affairs at Wake County Human Services. NO ADMINISTRATIVE COSTS are taken from contributions - 100% of each donation goes directly to those in need. Visit the Wake County Warmth for Wake page here.
Are You Eligible to Receive Assistance?
Those served must be Wake County residents. Wake County Human Services staff screen applicants. They look at all income and resources as well as expenses, and also consider emergency or special situations that may have affected available income. Income guidelines are based on current poverty levels. If interested in applying for the program, please call 212-7000. Visit www.wake.gov to find out about other energy assistance programs.
